What "Hand-Coded" Actually Means

It's a phrase that gets thrown around, so here's the concrete version. A page builder ships a general-purpose engine to every visitor: a framework, a theme, a stack of plugins, and the styling for a hundred layout options your site will never use. The browser downloads all of it, then works out which parts apply to your page. Hand-coding skips that entirely. I write the HTML for your page, the styling for your design, and nothing else. There's no engine to download because there's nothing to interpret. That's the whole trick, and it's why a hand-built page opens in about a second while a builder page takes five.

What You'll Need to Provide

Three things, and none of them are technical.

Your content, or a rough version of it

You don't need to write like a copywriter. Bullet points covering what you do, who you do it for, and roughly what you charge is plenty, and I'll shape it from there. Most people overthink this part and it stalls the project for weeks.

Photos of real work

Stock images of a generic office do nothing for you. Pictures of your actual jobs, your actual crew, your actual storefront are worth more than anything I could buy. Photos off your phone are fine.

Answers to a short questionnaire

What makes you different, which jobs are worth your time, and which ones you'd rather not take. That last one matters more than people expect, because a good site filters as much as it attracts.

A domain, or a decision about one

If you already own one, we point it at the new site and nothing changes for your customers. If you don't have one yet, I can register it for you as part of getting set up. Either way you're not left working out what a nameserver is on a Sunday night.

Your own email stays yours

Business email is something you keep hold of. I'm not taking over your inbox or migrating your mail, so whatever you're using today carries on working exactly as it does now.

You See It Before Anyone Else Does

Nothing goes live without you looking at it first. You review the finished build, tell me what's off, and we keep going until you're genuinely happy with it. I don't cap the number of rounds, because a site you feel lukewarm about isn't worth launching and I'd rather fix it than argue over whether the third change counted as included.

What Happens After It Launches

This is where most web design relationships end, and where I think they should start.

You send changes, I make them

A new service, changed hours, a photo swap, a price update. Send it over and it's handled. That's inside the monthly cost, not billed as a change order.

The technical side stays current

Hosting, security certificates and updates are covered. There's no plugin sitting there waiting to update itself at two in the morning and take the site down, because there are no plugins.

Nothing goes stale by neglect

The reason so many small business websites look abandoned is that whoever built it moved on and nobody was left to maintain it. That specific problem is what the monthly model exists to solve.

Who This Isn't For

I'd rather put this in writing than waste your time on a call. If you want to log into an editor and rearrange the site yourself whenever the mood strikes, I'm the wrong choice, because that's how sites get broken and how you end up paying me to fix it. If you need something live by Friday, I can't do that honestly. And if the cheapest possible option is the deciding factor, a template builder will genuinely cost you less than I will. What I sell is a site that loads fast, gets found, and has a real person behind it two years from now. That isn't the cheapest thing on the market and I don't pretend otherwise.
